FAT Witnessing in Finland

Factory Acceptance Test witnessing for industrial equipment and systems at manufacturers in Finland.

Witnessing agreed factory tests, test setup, measurements, results, observations and open items before delivery.

Before the FAT

A useful FAT starts with understanding what will be tested and which acceptance criteria apply to the equipment or system.

  • Review of the agreed FAT procedure and relevant project requirements
  • Identification of equipment, test sequence and required measurement points
  • Review of calibration status for relevant test instruments when records are part of the scope
  • Confirmation of drawings, data sheets and technical references used during the test

During test witnessing

Observed conditions and results are recorded against the agreed procedure rather than relying only on a final test sheet.

  • Test setup and operating conditions
  • Functional, routine, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic or performance tests as applicable
  • Readings, trends, alarms, interlocks or operating observations included in the procedure
  • Unexpected behavior, deviations and retests performed during the visit
  • Open points remaining after completion of the planned test sequence

FAT reporting

The technical report connects the witnessed activity to the equipment identification, procedure and recorded results available during the visit.

  • Tests attended and their observed status
  • Relevant readings and photographs
  • Open points or follow-up items
  • References to the procedure, drawings and test records used during witnessing

What matters during the inspection

A FAT is more than recording a pass/fail result. The inspector should confirm the test setup, referenced procedure, instrument identification, available calibration status, acceptance criteria and the conditions under which the reading was obtained.

TECHNICAL BASIS

Documents and standards

For Factory Acceptance Test Witnessing, the technical basis comes from the purchase order, project specification, approved supplier documents and equipment requirements. IEC, EN, ISO, ASME, API or other references are used only when they are specified for the actual equipment or project.

  • Approved FAT or test procedure
  • ITP / QAP witness point
  • Equipment data sheet and approved drawings
  • Instrument list and relevant calibration records
  • Test sheets, acceptance criteria and open-item list

Send the key details for a faster review

Manufacturer location, equipment, required date and a short description are enough to start. Project documents can be exchanged after the initial contact through the agreed project channel.

BEFORE THE VISIT

Information that helps us prepare faster

  • Manufacturer or supplier name and inspection location
  • Equipment or package description and project / purchase reference
  • Requested inspection date and expected visit duration
  • Relevant ITP, drawings, specifications and test procedure
REPORTING

Typical inspection output

  • Visit summary and equipment identification
  • Referenced documents and attended inspection or test points
  • Measurements, observations and available test results
  • Photos and clear open-item follow-up information when applicable

Practical questions

What is the difference between FAT witnessing and a document-only review?

FAT witnessing includes attendance during the actual agreed test activities. A document review evaluates records, but does not replace observation of test setup, behavior and measurements during the test.

Can FAT witnessing cover motors and generators?

Yes. When included in the agreed test procedure, witnessing can cover electrical measurements, running tests, vibration, bearing-related observations, cooling, noise or other specified checks.

Can the visit include final visual inspection after FAT?

Yes, when requested. Final visual condition, markings, completeness and selected packing or shipment-readiness checks can be included in the same assignment.
